Continuing Education Activity Point of care optic nerve sheath ultrasound (ONSUS) is a bedside practice that can be used to evaluate for increased intracranial pressure. Systematic review and meta-analysis have shown that ONSD of more than 5.00 to 5.70 mm has a concurrent ICP value above 20 mm Hg. Systematic review and meta-analysis showed a mean ONSD in the included studies of 5.82 mm. ONSD ...
Optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) is an emerging non-invasive, easily accessible, and possibly useful measurement for evaluating changes in intracranial pressure (ICP). The utilization of bedside ultrasonography (USG) to measure ONSD has garnered increased attention due to its portability, real-time capability, and lack of ionizing radiation.
Here, we evaluate five commercially available POCUS devices for use in ONSD measurement. We present results of a clinician preference survey evaluating the devices for "Image Quality", "Ease of Acquisition", "Tactile Feel", "Software", and "Overall ONSD" (using a newly designed ocular head phantom).

A BSTRACT Optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) is a noninvasive, bedside tool for estimating intracranial pressure (ICP) in conditions such as traumatic brain injury, intracranial hypertension, and optic neuritis. It is risk free compared to conventional methods, avoiding radiation and infection risks.
Optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) sonography is a reliable method for evaluation of intracranial pressure, yet there is a lack of reliable normal values. In the study described here, we established normal ONSD values in three different age groups and both sexes. One hundred eighty-seven volunteers without central nervous system disease were enrolled in this prospective study. ONSD ...
Optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) measurement is a non-invasive and easy imaging technique for the estimation of intracranial pressure in children and adults. We aimed to measure the ONSD in pediatric patients with head trauma. Methods: In this study, 40 patients with head trauma and age- and sex-matched 40 healthy children were included.
In paternity cases, genetic tests are of great importance as they allow to exclude or confirm paternity. As a result of paternity tests we can also obtain information on the frequency of short tandem repeat mutations, which are important in the statistical analysis of test results. A total of 468 ca …

The primary output from the ultrasound is the optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD), a measurement recorded in millimeters. The clinician uses digital calipers on the ultrasound image to measure the sheath's width. This measurement is taken at a standardized point 3 millimeters behind the globe of the eye to ensure reliable data.
